Summer Arrived Today

April 10th, 2011.

We were outside a lot today. It was the warmest day of the year in the Chicago area. I think it got up to 84. Trouper did not like the heat too much. I think because he is so small the slightest change in temperature is hard for him to cope with. Plus, it was in the 50’s just yesterday so it was an extreme shift. He just loves being with the other dogs. He follows them every where. My little dogs are barkers and he is definitely finding his voice as he becomes more confident in the house. He was barking at all the people coming outside after the long winter.

He is still taking Mobic once a day and Ultram 12.5 mg if needed. He is running up the stairs but not down. If I am upstairs, he is right behind me. He is already following either me or the other dogs.  So, he is fitting right in. I will be happy when I get his staples out and his long, maltese-hair covers up his scar. He is still pretty skinny so I have been giving him baked chicken and bits of cookie as a treat. He loves that. After his surgery, he had a “dental ” and unfortunately lost a few teeth. Small dogs do have trouble with their teeth, but missing at just age 2 is totally unacceptable. Again, a good reason he is in our rescue and finally getting medical care. He needed to be neutered which was not ever done either. And de wormed.

This Sunday is day three since he has been bunking in with us and I feel things are going pretty well. Who ever adopts him will be getting a wonderful little guy. I am not too firm with him so he is getting what ever he wants. Why not? He’s in rehab right now and life has been tough enough. Chicken and cookies anyone??? Sure,,,why not…woof!

My Little Tripawd Joins the Pack

Hello Dear Friends,,,

April 7th and 930 pm CST central time.

I picked up Trouper from the veteranary clinic in Racine Wisconsin at 2 pm today.  He is a 4 lb Maltese and had his surgery one week ago today. He is absolutely adorable. He has the sweetest disposition and seems to be getting around fairly well. He hops on his right, front leg and can get up on the deck in the back yard.  The 3 dogs I have seemed to accept him very well.

The surgical site is clean, dry, intact and with no drainage or redness. The surgeon, Dr. Brian Ray did a supurb procedure. The dog can not really reach to pull at the staples so I dont have to put a cone-of-shame on him….

I am much more relaxed now that I have him and see what he can do.  I have to figure out how to add the pictures I took. One is of me holding him in the clinic. I look a little scraggly and the dog seems perplexed, but all is well with the world.

He is only two yrs old and in good health. He should be around for a long time thanks to the generous donations to the North Central Maltese Rescue that paid for this costly surgery.

So, Trouper gets his Second Chance and I couldn’t be more grateful!

I am so tired but content. Life is good,,,life is so precious and I am very happy tonight and I think Trouper is too. Campsie,,,xoxo

My First Foster is Going to be a Tripawd

Last week, I found out the maltese I was going to foster had to lose his leg. Tomorrow at 2pm, I meet the head of the North Central Maltese Rescue organization to pick up the dog.

His name WAS Chance, but the rescue group wanted to change it so the people that abused him and broke his left, front leg would not name him. I THINK he is going to be named Trouper. If he knows his old name, I don’t want to upset him.

This is my first blog and I am trying to get it going so I can document how things go.

Thanks for helping me learn. I will be like the little tripaw trying to learn a new way of getting around. Hopefully as this blog progresses, so will he!
